A Time to Remember
As we celebrate Memorial Day, we at Oxford United Methodist Church would like to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their life to preserve our freedom. The following quotes were expressed in their honor:
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them.” John F. Kennedy
“Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world. A veteran does not have that problem.” Ronald Reagan
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children through the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.” Ronald Reagan
“In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
“Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being; with freedom comes responsibility.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“For love of country they accepted death, and this resolved all doubts and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.” James A. Garfield
“Here men endured that a nation might live.” Herbert Hoover
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God such men lived.” George S. Patton
“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Their remembrance will be as lasting as the land they honored.” Daniel Webster
“Patriotism is not a short, frenzied outburst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.” Adlai E. Stevenson, II
“Where liberty dwells there is my country.” Benjamin Franklin
“WE DON’T KNOW THEM ALL - BUT WE OWE THEM ALL .” UNKNOWN
