Reverend Dr. Nancy “Nan” Pickens came to Oxford GMC in March of 2023 and sits on our Church Council Board.  She comes with excellent credentials, which includes a MS in Nursing from Syracuse University, a MA in Pastoral Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary and a PhD in Christian Counseling from Pillsbury College and Seminary, as well as a MS in Education/Audiology from Old Dominion University.

Even before Rev. Nan became a Christian in 1981 at the age of 40, her compassion and love for people led her to serve eight years as an Officer in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps.  Finding joy in serving others and her country.

During her participation with the Deaf and hearing-impaired members of Christ Church of the Deaf in Baltimore, MD., she felt her call to full-time ministry.  Rev. Nan is an ordained minister and her experience is extremely vast in that capacity, however, her passion is for Christian Counseling, to reach out to the hurt and hurting people of this world.

She is currently busy implementing several new ministries here, the first being “Grief Share.”  Rev. Nan is well acquainted with grief as her brother, Dennis, died by suicide in 2008 and her heart is empathetic to those in pain.  This program, coupled with her rich Christian Counseling background, makes her a true asset to our church and our community as she counsels and leads our “Grief Share” program.  She will encourage and listen, knowing “The Lord is near to the broken hearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”  Psalm 34:19.

Welcome Reverend Dr. Nan Pickens to Oxford UMC.
